Jennifer Kirby and Nicole Vandermade, protégés of Core PGA Tour Coach Sean Foley and former Core students, are among nine Ontario athletes who have qualified or earned exemptions into the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur set for Charlotte Country Club August 9-15, 2010.
In late July, Kirby won the Ontario Women’s Amateur for the second straight year, Kirby won by 10 shots over Delaney Howson with four-under 212 total. Foley student Brogan McKinnon was third at 223.
In June, McKinnon won the 2010 Toronto Star Women’s Amateur at Weston G&CC. At 15, she became the youngest winner in the history of the event.
She finished third in the qualifying medal round with a two-day total of 153 to advance to the match-play round. She won her four matches, including the final 3 and 1 over Vivian Tsui, to capture the championship.
The Canadian Women's Amateur finished up July 30 and Kirby, who was defending champion, finished seventh and Vandermade was T11.
During the RBC Canadian Open, Bob Skura, Core’s new Mental Performance Coach, was mentioned on scoregolf.com for his work with Nationwide Tour player Jon Mills. At St. George’s, Mills told scoregolf.com that he was working on becoming more aggressive with his short putting.
Mills of Belleville, Ontario is now also working with Foley. Mills finished T48 at St. George’s, 10 shots back of winner Carl Pettersson.
