Core Golf students Chase Thurston and Ben Murray enjoy Top Three finishes
ORLANDO, Florida (December 2, 2009)—Chase Thurston and Ben Murray, students at the Core Golf Junior Academy, enjoyed top three finishes in highly regarded Florida junior tournaments last weekend.
Thurston, 19, of Haliburton, Ontario fired rounds of 71-72-74 to enter a playoff at the Champions Gate Challenge, a Future Collegians World Tour event in Orlando. On the second playoff hole, Thurston’s ball circled the hole but failed drop and Tanapol Vattanapisit of Thailand won with a par.
Thurston’s second-place finish follows his recent 10th place finish at the Grand Cypress Open.
Evan Littlefield, 17, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, finished 19th with 230 in the boys 16-19 division at Champions Gate.
Ben Murray, 18, of Toronto, shot rounds of 78-73-75 for a 226 total to finish third at the Verterra Sport, an event on the International Junior Golf Tour at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra.
Competing on the top Florida junior tours is a key part of the Core Golf Junior Academy program, providing students with opportunities to showcase their talent for university coaches and scouts and to develop their tournament skills.
Along with PGA Tour coaches Sean Foley, Dr. Craig Davies and Neale Smith, the Core Golf Junior Academy provides intensive instruction, coaching and private education for young golfers who are determined to fulfill their dreams on and off the golf course.
The junior academy is part of the Core Golf Academy which provides high-quality instruction to all levels of players at two Greater Toronto Area facilities: The Academy at Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Oakville, and Willow Valley Golf Course in Hamilton.
Nike Golf Canada is the official sponsor of the Core Golf Academy and supplies apparel, equipment, balls and footwear to Core Golf Academy instructors and to Core Golf Junior Academy students.
