Core's Wil Bateman wins second FCWT event of 2010-11 season

ORLANDO, Florida (February 7, 2011)—In control from the start, Core Golf Academy student Wil Bateman surged to a five-shot win on the weekend, capturing his second Future Collegians World Tour event of the 2010-2011 season.

It was the ninth victory for Core Golf Academy students in major Florida junior tournaments this season, and included another stellar finish for three-time winner Ryan Borg.

Wil, a 17–year-old native of Edmonton, Alberta fired a one-under 71 to lead by three after the first round on the difficult El Campeon course at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. His steady play continued Sunday with a 72, which included chipping in for eagle on the par-5 14th which sealed the deal.

“Wil has been working hard over the past few weeks and his game is in good shape as a result,” said Tom Jackson, Core’s Director of Instruction. “He was very consistent from tee to green and he was very thrifty on and around the greens.”

A member of Golf Canada’s national development team, Wil is in his second year at Core Golf Academy. He will attend San Diego State University next year on a golf scholarship.

Core’s Ryan Borg of Orangeville, Ontario was T3 as a 15 year old playing in the 16-19 year old boys division, firing 77-72 for the event. Ryan has won two FCWT events and one Florida Junior Tour event in the 13-15 division.

“I am very proud of Ryan for his performance this weekend,” said Jeff Hay, Core’s Director of Golf Operations. “I knew he was ready to play up an age group, but to place in the top 3 in his first event is exceptional. He continues to prove he belongs among the elite players on the Florida junior tours”.

Anna Young of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan had another great tournament, finishing fourth in the girls division. She opened with a 78 and her final round 75 tied for low round of the day. Two weeks ago, Anna captured the FCWT event at IMG Academies.

Core’s Adam Carson of England made a hole in one on the par-3 second hole Sunday on his way to a T9 finish.
