National Post: Sean Foley - The Core of the matter
Sean Foley, Swing Doctor To The Stars, Is Breaking Ground And Turning Heads On The PGA Tour

Photography By Core Golf Junior Academy With four PGA Tour players and a host of junior prospects in his fold, Sean Foley may already be Canada's most famous golf instructor ever.
There's an argument to be made that Canada's greatest impact on the PGA Tour isn't being made by a player, but a coach. Sean Foley, however, isn't your typical coach. The well read Burlington, Ont. native is as comfortable chatting about Buddhism and political theory as he is posture and grip. And while he has earned acclaim in his native land, including a 2008 Ontario PGA Coach of the Year award and signing on as Stephen Ames' swing guru, Foley always knew he needed to venture south of the border to truly spread his wings.
Since setting up shop in August 2006 as the director of instruction of the Core Golf Junior Academy at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Orlando, Fla., Foley has added to his talent pool by taking on such PGA Tour notables as Hunter Mahan, Parker McLachlin and Sean O'Hair, the latter of whom went from 130th to second in overall PGA Tour stats after hooking up with Foley.
"Moving to Florida has allowed me to teach all year, and in doing so I've attained more knowledge and experience," says Foley. "It's also the Mecca of high-profile teaching instructors."
But it's the academy's junior element that may yet prove to be Foley's most lasting contribution. Students like Mississauga's Brogan McKinnon, one of the best 14-year-olds in North America, are making waves on Florida junior tours, and Paris, Ont.'s Jennifer Kirby, who ranks second on the RCGA's girls' Order of Merit, is the reigning Ontario Junior Girls' champion.
"Being based in Florida provides them with the ability to work harder and longer than the girls in Canada they compete with," he explains. "Time is a true advantage for them."
It is for Foley, too. At only 34 years of age, Canada's most famous instructor figures he still has a lot to learn, and even more to teach.
