O’HAIR TIPS CAP TO CANADIAN SWING COACH
Globe and Mail: O'Hair tips cap to swing coach Sean Foley
Golf might be an individual sport, but Sean O'Hair thanked the team behind him after winning the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte last Sunday.
Among his entourage is swing coach Sean Foley, a native of Burlington, Ont., who built his reputation tutoring Canadian juniors.
"I can't thank him enough, but Sean Foley has really changed my game around," O'Hair said. "I think he's changed my life forever, so I owe a lot to Sean."
O'Hair, a pro for 10 years despite being just 26, struggled early in his career and was down to his last $2,000 (U.S.) at one point, getting from event to event in a motorhome.
Now, he's a superstar and the only American in his 20s to have won three PGA Tour events.
Foley, who now heads the Core Golf Junior Academy in Orlando and works with other tour players such as Stephen Ames and Hunter Mahan, deflected the credit. "Sean O'Hair is a Ferrari," Foley told golf writer Ted McIntyre for his blog at golfontario.ca. "I'm just the GPS navigational device."
