Four Core Golf students finish in Top 10 in Florida junior tournament
ORLANDO, Florida (November 24, 2009)—A quartet of Core Golf Junior Academy students made some serious noise in the two-day Grand Cypress Open.
Evan Littlefield, Wil Bateman, Jeff Hunter and Chase Thurston finished in the Top 10 of the Future Collegians World Tour event on the North and South Courses of Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando on the weekend.
“It’s exciting to see four Core Golf academy players in the Top 10 in a very competitive tournament on these difficult Grand Cypress courses,” said Tom Jackson, Core Golf’s Director of Instruction.
“It tells me that Evan, Wil, Jeff and Chase are making great progress in their tournament play, and that Core Golf is making a difference in taking their games to the next level.”
Littlefield, 17, of Thunder Bay, Ontario was pleased with his overall play, firing rounds of 74-77 to finish three back. Blake Soni of Lakewood, Florida won a one-hole playoff over Zachary Stanley of Inverness, Florida after they tied with a 148 total in regulation play.
But Littlefield was disappointed with his final hole, making a triple bogey seven. A par would have got him into the playoff.
Bateman, 16, finished T7 at 153. This follows the Edmonton native’s victory earlier in the month in an International Junior Golf Tour event.
Hunter, 18, also of Thunder Bay finished ninth with a 154 total, and Chase Thurston, 18, of Haliburton, Ontario finished T10.
Fellow Core Golf academy students Kyle Sayani, 17, of Mississauga, Ontario, and Sam Jackson, 18, of Cambridge, Ontario, finished T25 with 159 totals.
Competing on the top Florida junior tours is a key part of the Core Golf Junior Academy program, providing students with opportunities to showcase their talent for university coaches and scouts and to develop their tournament skills.
Along with PGA Tour coaches Sean Foley, Dr. Craig Davies and Neale Smith, the Core Golf Junior Academy provides intensive instruction, coaching and private education for young golfers who are determined to fulfill their dreams on and off the golf course.
The junior academy is part of the Core Golf Academy which provides high-quality instruction to all levels of players at two Greater Toronto Area facilities: The Academy at Piper’s Heath Golf Club in Oakville, and Willow Valley Golf Course in Hamilton.
Nike Golf Canada is the official sponsor of the Core Golf Academy and supplies apparel, equipment, balls and footwear to Core Golf Academy instructors and to Core Golf Junior Academy students.
